Buffalo Electronics Connecting Block

The HomeVision and HomeVision-Pro infrared transmit jacks can directly drive the Buffalo Electronics amplified connecting block.

Required parts

Power transformer.

Either a:

bulletCable with 3.5mm mono or stereo plug on each end; or,
bulletCable with 3.5mm mono or stereo plug (mono preferred) on one end, and wires on the other end.

When using a cable with plugs on each end, plug one into the HomeVision IR jack, the other into the connecting block input.

When using a cable with only one plug, plug it into HomeVision's IR TX jack. Connect the wires to the connecting block's terminal block as follows:

    For Mono Plug:    - Striped wire (the plug's tip) to "Input"
   - Plain wire (the plug's body) to "Ground"
    For Stereo Plug:    - Red wire (the plug's tip) to "Input"
   - Ground wire (the plug's body) to "Ground"
   - Gray wire (the plug's center ring) is left unconnected

NOTE: If the wires don't match these descriptions, use an ohmmeter to determine which wires connect to the specified portions of the plug.

Power

Provide power to the connecting block using an external transformer. A DC transformer of 5 to 12 volts is required. 9 volts is recommended, as 12 volts can sometimes overdrive the emitters. This can cause erratic infrared reception with some equipment.

You can also power the connecting block from HomeVision's 5 volt supply. To do this, use the terminal block on Port C to provide (C-9 for 5V, C-10 for ground). When providing power in this manner, HomeVision's built-in IR LED should be disconnected by removing jumper JP1. This prevents too much current being drawn.
